| Starting around September, there will be a UAW-wide vote on an important referendum, 1 Member 1 Vote (1M1V). 1M1V would change the way officers of the UAW International Executive Board (IEB) are elected, from the current system where each Local elects a proportionate number of delegates who then vote for IEB officers, to an election where every UAW member votes directly for IEB officers. In December, we endorsed 1M1V — in addition to other action we’ve begun taking with Locals along the West Coast — but the outcome is up to every UAW member to decide! Because the 1M1V referendum vote is UAW-wide, it’s different from other votes we’ve had as a union. The vote will likely happen via mail-in ballot. To ensure you get your ballot, please make sure the mailing address you have on file is up to date. Addresses we have on file typically come from the membership card you submitted or from employment rosters submitted by UC. If your address has changed since becoming a UAW 2865 member, please fill out this short form by Tuesday, July 27 to update your mailing address. The Independent Monitor who is overseeing this election will be mailing test postcards to every UAW member to ensure that addresses on file are accurate so getting your address updated by July 27 will ensure that you receive a test postcard in August. IEB members make important decisions about organizing and the overall direction of our union, so deciding how they are elected is a fundamental part of building our democratic union. Every 2865 member’s vote is critical in determining the outcome of the election. Please make sure your address is updated, and plan to vote in October. |
