Your union is holding its 2021 October Vacancy Election to fill vacant positions on our Joint Council and vacant International delegate positions. The election will take place on October 21-22, 2021.
Please read on for information about the election and instructions on how to accept the nomination if you are interested in running for one of these positions.

Joint Council offices: The term for the Joint Council offices is from the time that election results are certified until the Local’s next Triennial election, which is scheduled for May 2024.
International Delegate positions: UAW 2865 is a local union within the UAW International union. Every four years there is a UAW Constitutional Convention where union members from different employment sectors come together, vote on policies and resolutions, and elect the UAW International Executive Board (this system of electing International Executive Board members through the delegate system may change depending on the results of the upcoming UAW-wide referendum on direct democracy). The last Constitutional Convention was held in June 2018, and we will be holding vacancy elections, in case there should be interim conventions.
TIMELINE: Deadlines are strict.
- Deadline to accept nomination: Tuesday, October 5, 2021 8:00 PM (Pacific Time).
- Candidate statements (optional) due: Tuesday, October 5, 2021, 8:00pm (Pacific Time).
- Voting (if there are contested positions): From Thursday, October 21, 2021, 12:01am, through Friday, October 22, 2021, 11:59pm (Pacific Time). The election will take place online.
- The elections committee will be available by email and on Zoom from 10 AM to 4 PM on October 21 and from 12 Noon to 6 PM (Pacific Time) on October 22 to process ballot requests and assist with any technical issues that arise during the online voting process. Details about the Elections Committee helpline are forthcoming.
- Run-off election (if necessary): From Thursday, October 28, 2021, 12:01am, through Friday, October 29, 2021, 11:59pm (Pacific Time). The run-off (if necessary) will take place online.
QUALIFICATIONS
- For Head Steward, Unit Chair, and Campus Recording Secretary: All UAW Local 2865 members in continuous good standing for ninety (90) days prior to accepting nominations are automatically nominated for these positions.
- International Convention Delegate: All delegates must have been officially a UAW member for a year. Delegates must be able to be physically present at Convention meetings, which may require significant travel. For reference, the last conventions were in Detroit, MI and Kansas City, MO.
- The Elections Committee will verify membership in good standing (payment of initiation fees and dues) and nominees’ required qualifications, per the UAW International Constitution.
- Concurrently held positions: Members may not hold more than one position on the Executive Board or Joint Council at a time.
ACCEPTING NOMINATION
Each member who wishes to accept nomination must indicate this intention in writing on their own behalf. Please only accept the nomination if you intend to run for the position, as nomination acceptances cannot be withdrawn once the nominating period has closed. WHEN ACCEPTING NOMINATION, PLEASE INCLUDE
- Position to which you are accepting the nomination
- Your name as you’d like it to appear on the ballot
- Contact information: department, phone number, and non-UC email address
- Candidate statement (up to 500 words, optional) – In the case of a contested election, the statement will be posted on the Local’s website and at applicable campus offices no later than Wednesday, October 13, 2021, and will be available on the online ballot during the election.
