We join US and international labor organizations in expressing our sadness and our outrage at the Israeli military’s actions this past week in Palestine that began with forced evictions in Sheikh Jarrah and a violent attack on worshippers at the Al-Aqsa mosque, and the curtailment of Palestinian trade union activity. The events of this past week are not novel – they are part of the long-standing occupation of Palestinian lands that have used the tactics of violence and erasure to tell the world the false story that one people’s liberation requires another’s subjugation. We reject this.

As unionists, we believe that an injury to one is an injury to all. A commitment to the principles of unionism means we must embody this axiom in our workplace, our communities, and our global outlook. The labor movement must support the human rights of all people: safety, housing, employment, education. In this spirit we condemn evictions, occupation, and military aggression, and we stand with those fighting for peace, freedom, and equality.

We call on our elected representatives to dismantle the structures of ongoing violence that enable displacement and police terror in Palestine, in the US, and across the globe. House Resolution 2590, supported by civil society organizations, unionists, and union allies, would end U.S. funding for the Israeli human rights abuses.

We call for the passage of HR 2590 (The Palestinian Children & Families Act) alongside the Adalah Justice Project, CODEPINK, the U.S. Campaign for Palestinian Rights, and Representatives Pramila Jayapal, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Cori Bush, Ilhan Omar, Rashida Tlaib and others.

We support Samidoun Palestinian Prisoner Solidarity Network in their call for an international Day of Action on Tuesday, May 18 in solidarity with the Palestinian uprising and general strike. Find ways to take action and support the general strike in Palestine from where you are, and a calendar of ongoing solidarity actions across the world here

We recommit ourselves to the ongoing struggle for workers’ rights everywhere.
