The contract fight is officially underway! Academic Student Employees (ASEs) have put initial demands to UC, and UC has now responded with proposals of their own. Here’s how things stand between the two positions right now:
There is an enormous difference between UC’s proposals and our union’s demands. UAW 2865’s demands seek to make dramatic and concrete improvements to the day-to-day lives of tens of thousands of student-workers across the state. UC proposes a handful of bureaucratic adjustments that will ease the workload of their highly-paid Labor Relations professionals and make it harder for ASEs to use their hard-won union grievance process to address harassment and discrimination.
