The results are in: Academic Student Employees (ASEs) across UC have ratified the Initial Bargaining Demands! 4972 of our coworkers voted, with 98% in favor of major improvements to wages, housing, equity and job security. Late last night, these demands were submitted to UC, and this vote shows that ASEs are serious, unified, and organized in our fight for the university we deserve.
We’re not alone in demanding a more equitable, democratic, and accessible university! UC Postdocs in UAW 5810 have been bargaining for many of the same things since last summer, and UC Student Researchers, fresh off of a historic campaign for union recognition, are crafting initial demands for their first contract right now. We all need a living wage, accessible and truly affordable housing, and workplace free from harassment and discrimination.
To win these ambitious demands, we’ll need the collective power and action of each and every UC academic worker. Join your coworkers on January 22nd for a special Joint Council meeting with UAW 5810 and Student Researchers United to talk about how all UAW Academic Workers can work together and win.
