Overview

UAW represents over 80,000 academic workers across U.S. higher education institutions. UAW seeks an experienced full stack developer to help create a new data management system for higher education unions. Applicants should have significant development experience on large-scale projects. Experience in student, community and/or labor organizing is a plus. This is for a full time position with potential for long term employment. This position is remote. 

Job Duties:

  • Collaborate with UAW data team to design, develop, deploy and document a new data management system based on specific union needs
  • Develop code repository to enable high-performance manipulation of the new database
  • Develop systems allowing for efficient imports and exports between data system and other data interfaces, particularly Excel and Google Sheets
  • Create tools and interfaces to facilitate easy database usage for UAW organizers
  • Develop processes to migrate data from two existing legacy databases to a new integrated system
  • Scope technical projects and provide accurate estimates of work
  • Collaborate with UAW team to write usage protocols for new systems

Job Requirements:

  • BS/MS in Computer Science or related area or equivalent experience
  • Experience with relational database development, database queries and stored procedures
  • Experience using Python scripting for database interaction, data manipulation and interacting with Google Sheets API 
  • Experience programming in a Linux environment
  • Experience using Git source control and either Github or Gitlab
  • Advanced usage of Google Sheets or Excel
  • Keen attention to detail
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Dedication to and enthusiasm for the labor movement and social justice
  • Ability to work with a diverse workforce and collaborate as part of a team

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with process design and process management
  • Experience with front-end development using Javascript frameworks 
  • Experience with web UI implementation using HTML and CSS
  • Experience with the Django web framework
  • Experience with academia, particularly within the University of California system

Compensation: $98,306 per year for full time employment.
