In the interest of promoting harmonious labor relations at UC Berkeley, UAW Local 2865 and the University have agreed to resolve several grievances around GSI classification and pay.
UC Berkeley will continue the use of the GSI working title.
GSIs who taught during the Fall 2023 semester will receive lump sum compensation no later than April 1, 2024, based on their GSI Step as of September 2023:

As of January 1, 2024, GSIs at Berkeley will receive experience-based raises in accordance with the following progression:

Prior to two semesters of experience: paid at TA 1 rate

After two semesters of experience: paid at TA 2 rate

GSIs with four or more semesters of experience who have taught prior to Fall ‘23 accrue experience-based raises as follows:

After four semesters of experience: paid at AI 2 rate

After six semesters of experience: paid at AI 3 rate

After eight semesters of experience: paid at AI 4 rate

These experience-based raises will be implemented no later than the April 2024 pay period and first reflected on the May 1, 2024 paycheck; all changes to compensation will be backdated to January 1, 2024.

- GSIs whose first time teaching was on or after Fall ‘23 and accrue four or more semesters of experience, they will be paid at the TA 3 rate. (The % increase over the September ‘23 GSI rates will be subject to the 2025 successor negotiations.)
