UAW Higher Education Lead Data Organizer Job Description
Overview:
UAW represents over 80,000 academic workers across U.S. higher education institutions. UAW seeks dynamic individuals with the ability to direct research and manage data operations in support of one-to-one organizing, leader identification and worker participation in collective actions. Must have experience with databases, spreadsheets, and/or programming. Experience in student, community and/or labor organizing is also a plus. This is for a full time position with potential for long term employment. This position is remote.
Job Duties:
- Oversee efficient data entry from diverse sources into a central database
- Develop data protocols that optimize research and data entry workflows
- Collaborate on code repository to enable high-performance manipulation of the new database
- Build, maintain and troubleshoot data system infrastructure to facilitate one-to-one organizing and organization of data collected during one-to-one organizing
- Direct worker, working conditions, and employment policy research program
- Coordinate with field staff and elected leadership to establish and prioritize data-related needs for UAW units and campaigns
- Analyze, synthesize, and report on organizing-related data
- Manage team of remote data organizers
- Additional duties as assigned
Job Requirements:
- Extensive experience managing and manipulating data in SQL or Python
- Advanced usage of Google Sheets and/or Excel
- Experience with relational databases, database queries/views and stored procedures
- Keen attention to detail
- Ability to work independently in a deadline-driven environment and take initiative on tasks
- Strong verbal and written communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences
- Dedication and enthusiasm for the labor movement and social justice
- Ability to work with a diverse workforce and collaborate as part of a team
Preferred Skills:
- Familiarity with programming in Postgres, Excel and/or Google Sheets
- Experience with Google Apps Scripts and the Google Sheets API
- Experience managing personnel
- Experience with academia, particularly within the University of California system
