UAW 2865 won new and groundbreaking protections against racial discrimination in our 2018-2022 contract.
UAW 2865 is committed to fighting for racial justice and equity in the workplace and beyond. Our 2018 contract won ASE’s first-ever protections against workplace racial discrimination. ASE’s who have been victims of racial discrimination are entitled to grievance proceedings, non-retaliation protections, and interim-solutions during the proceedings (such as assigning an ASE to a new supervisor so they can continue working). These protections are groundbreaking both at the University of California and in higher education in general.
UAW 2865 supports Proposition 16, the Opportunity for All Act. This proposition will amend California’s constitution to repeal Proposition 209 (passed in 1996), a racist and xenophobic law that prohibits affirmative action programs in public employment and education.
