Since its inception, UAW 2865 has been at the front of the fight for equity at the University of California. At the heart of this union is the fundamental belief that an injury to one is an injury to all.
In this spirit, UAW 2865 has fought many campaigns for equity. The Union contract gives workers strong protections against discrimination and harassment in the workplace. It also affords parental leave and childcare reimbursement for parenting workers, and access to safe, comfortable lactation spaces for lactating workers. Sanctuary measures in our new contract give workers paid leaves to attend immigration-related proceedings for themselves or a close family member.
A recent solidarity action with our sibling union, UAW 5810 (UC Postdocs and Academic Researchers) won back the job of an international scholar at UCLA who was fired in a case of pregnancy discrimination and retaliation.
